The ‘kitten’ comes from the Santo Giordano vineyard of southern Carneros. This is a beautiful vineyard of sangiovese, where cold winds and fog ensure that the fruit is lean and lovely. Our rose is 100% sangiovese, Mike Barber’s favorite grape and the perfect, bright varietal for rose production. The grapes were crushed after harvest and left to sit on the skins for just 3 hours to develop color before being pressed and fermented in stainless steel.
This is a gorgeous summer sipper, with flavors of dark cherry, strawberry, and jasmine/ rosehip aromas. This kitten’s got claws – 2021 was a great growing season heavily influenced by drought and a sharp reduction in crop yield. This meant tiny berries in grape clusters with intense acidity, and it shows in the wines. The color of this kitten is slightly darker than previous releases, with brooding, darker flavors behind all the flashy, bright acidity. This will please any lovers of serious, dry wine but it still has enough beautifully lush fruit to make it a fun crowd pleaser.
